Overcrowded Living

The Overcrowded Living project explored ways to improve the situation for households living in overcrowded conditions, where the option of moving to larger accommodation is unavailable. MA Industrial Design students worked with residents and service providers to understand the challenges, needs and desires of people living with overcrowding, and design ways to address them.

Camden Youth Hubs

As part of reshaping Camden’s youth services, the council looked to integrate service delivery to those young people in greatest need via a ‘youth hubs’ model. Working in teams, MA Narrative Environment students collaborated with council officers and young people affected by the proposed changes to research and develop designs for the ‘youth hubs’ that could accommodate the newly configured youth services.

Let’s Sort it Out! Tackling Waste Contamination to Increase Recycling

Working together with council officers and residents of Kilburn Vale and Chalcots Estate in the London Borough of Camden, BA Product Design students, supported by tutors and PCL researchers, explored the question ‘how can product design contribute to making it easier and more rewarding to separate our waste effectively?’.

Reimagining Planning

Reimagining Planning was a four-week design ‘sprint’ which brought together students, residents, planning officers architects, developers, activists and design researchers to explore perspectives around planning engagement.

Future Libraries

MA Industrial Design students supported by design researchers and tutors worked with council officers and librarians to design creative new ways to engage the public in sharing their visions for libraries of the future.

Home Community & Library

The Home Community & Library project paired postgraduate Service Design Innovation students from London College of Communication with home librarians to explore the future of the Home Library Service through service design thinking methods and tools, engaging different stakeholders, including community groups and the public.
